things have been hectic at home. kids fighting, son having his last week at primary sept he goes to secondary, and i am way more nervous than him.. gonna be strange only picking two up at primary.. these are the really emotional parts of being a parent.. watching your kids reach their milestones.

Poor baby is sick

Posted by: nappywraps on: July 10, 2010

My little lady (who is 6) is feeling awful today, she woke up with a raging temp, at one stage it went to 40.c which as any parent knows is very worrying.. If she was my first i would have rushed myself off to the hospital.. but as she is my 5th i dont tend to panic as much, this doesnt mean i dont care, because i do.. its just i have been through it several times before and the main thing the hospital does is lower their temp with ibuprofen or paracetomol. So i went and got some childrens ibuprofen and her temp is now down to 38.88 so a big improvement.. and hopefully the worst is over with..
But as a parent there are times that we feel helpless, and sometimes we dont know what to do. I still have those kind of moments, as a i am always learning and dealing with new things.
Hopefully my baby will feel better soon and up and running around as if nothing happened..

I feel so sorry for her though, she feels miserable, tired and has been sleeping on and off all day.

sad thoughts.

Posted by: nappywraps on: July 5, 2010

unfortunately due to a family death i have let myself get behind on my orders, but am working hard to get all caught up..

Since then i feel like i havent stopped yet i dont think i did anything productive.. :(

my head has been all over the place.

Death is never a nice thing no matter who it is, and  can affect each and every person differently..

My mum is the type to keep herself busy under stress, i get totally disorganised and try to keep busy but get nowhere fast.. making everything worse.

But finally am getting a handle on myself and my emotions.

It was a shock and unexpected when i got the phone call. My uncle was perfectly fine as far as anyone  knew..  does it make it easier when you know that someone is ill, honestly am not sure.. when my nan died years ago i knew she was ill but was still just as upset.. why is that? you would think being prepared for someones death you would be emotionally better, but really its still hard either way.

Death feels so unfair, yet its a natural process of life..

anyways before i ramble and get all emotional again, i will sign off and go get some work done.

cloth nappies – some truths

Posted by: nappywraps on: July 1, 2010

well considering i make and sell cloth nappies, its only right that i do a blog about them..

Alot of people are put off at the thought of washing them in their machine.. but really its not as difficult as you think..

If baby has done a number 2 then you just empty the contents into the toilet, and then wash the nappy in the machine.. at a 60 wash or below.

There is no real need to boil wash, infact its not really a good idea as this can ruin the fabrics.. making them less absorbant.

There is no need to soak nappies in a bucket, this too can break down some fabrics.. its better to keep them in a nappy bag, or a dry bucket. Avoid bleach for the same reasons.. and bleach can also irritate babies skin.

Nappies dont take up all your time washing them.. i used to wash every other day.. in between my normal amount of clothes washing, and with a family of five children, the machine was always on anyways, whats an extra wash every few days.

Drying time varies depending on the nappy itself.. the thicker the nappy the longer it will take to dry.. tumble drying on a low heat is ok.. but not for a long time..

Best way to dry your nappies, is on the washing line. This is also great for sunning out stains.. which can happen occassionally.. the sun is a natural bleacher.

To prevent stains its advisable to use a fleece or paper liner, to protect the nappy.. fleece is a stain resistant fabric and washes very easily..

there are so many kinds of nappies, shaped nappies and shaped wraps (a cover) the good old terry squares are still available, and perfect for families on a tight budget..

worried about using pins? then dont be, most nappies fasten with velcro or poppers (plastic type buttons) making putting on a cloth nappy much easier than you think.

Most cloth nappies are shaped just like a disposable, but work out far cheaper in the long run. Once you have your “stash” of nappies then there are only the washing costs to contend with.

You can save more money, by using your nappies on future children or selling  your stash of nappies on.. therefore making some of your money back.. something you cannot do with a disposable nappy!

Using  cloth also saves you bin space, and most places now have fortnightly collections.. think how much space you are saving in your bin, by not using disposables..

IF you are intersted in trying cloth or currently already use cloth nappies, then feel free to visit my site www.thenappywrapstore.co.uk to see some fabulous prints and styles of nappies and wraps..

sons second day of induction into secondary school.

Posted by: nappywraps on: June 30, 2010

Son number 2 loved his first induction day yesterday, says the school is great.. hope that continues after september.

Went to parents evening last night met his teacher, who seems nice.. priced up the P.E kit.. £54.75 for it all, not cheap at all. Left a cheque with the school today..

But still to get the uniform. Not sure how much that will be.. moving schools is not a cheap event.. I always like to have two of everything so there is a spare, so while one is washing the other is ready.  Will go and price that up at the shops next week.

Will ask his dad to pay for the uniform lol.. hey i did the p.e kit today so its only fair to share the expense.

On a serious note i am glad that he is happy there, even though its only the induction days.. but  at least he is looking forward to going there in september.  I can relax about the future!!

todays upcoming events.

Posted by: nappywraps on: June 29, 2010

my son Antonio, is going to his induction day for secondary school.. tonight they are having parents evening so we can meet with the teachers. Its a big two days for him, he is very quiet in new situations, so am hoping he does ok.. The fact that he has some very good friends makes me feel better.. They will look out for him!

Then i have a meeting with my other sons teacher, to discuss how he is doing.. the last few years have been a struggle for him due to his adhd, but the school he attends have been nothing but helpful..and understanding.

Finding a good school is not easy, and i feel glad that the one my kids are in are as good as they are. I can approach a teacher at any time and discuss my childrens progress or any problems, to be honest there hasnt been many in the last 2.5 years and any that has arisen have been dealt with quickly..

unfortunately my oldest who is 16 didnt have as good an experience with her last secondary school and i made the descision to homeschool her. i think she learnt more being at home than she did in the time she was at the school.. bullying issues that no one admitted to or even wanted to help with where the reasons for her unhappiness.

I support parents who want to homeschool as well as those who prefer their children to be in a school, i am both.

If my children are not happy at school then i know my options are there.. but my younger 3 are doing well in school so i wouldnt even think about pulling them out, but if things change in the future i will do what is neccesary.

So after my busy morning, with the two boys, i will then come home and get on with some sewing, and house cleaning, looks like a tornado has run through it..

Looking forward to the weekend already as i feel so drained physically and emotionally, i need to wind down at the weekend. Though i will probably spend most of it cleaning or sewing..

Hoping today is a better day than yesterday!

Oh and a little bit of news, my home based business www.thenappywrapstore.co.uk has been going for over 2 years now, so today and tomorrow everything is 50% off!!! to celebrate..

Thanks for reading :O)
